Welcome
Stressed, anxious, depressed?
Suffering from traumatic and challenging life events?
Going through difficult times of change and upheaval?
Searching for meaning?
These are a few of the possible reasons why people seek therapeutic help.
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist practicing in the Chilterns area and have worked for several years with individuals on a variety of issues.
I will provide a safe and confidential environment for you to bring your concerns and experiences, relate your history, and explore your problems and issues. As you tell your story and receive an empathic and non-judgmental response you will be able to work through painful feelings and clarify confusing thoughts; this leads to a new perspective on what troubles you and a deeper connection to who you are and to what is meaningful for you.
Reasons for seeking help include:
- emotional problems
- stress and anxiety
- depression
- relationships
- loss and bereavement
- eating disorders
- addictions
- sexuality
- loss of meaning and direction
- mid-life issues
- life thresholds and transitions
- spirituality
Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling can be relatively short term where a particular issue in your current life is focused on and addressed. In psychotherapy it becomes possible to take a deeper look at underlying patterns and influences in the journey of your life; this can lead to a widening of perspective and a shift in your way of being in the world, a more authentic dialogue between your inner self and your outer life.
The Way I Work
My approach to therapy is holistic in that all aspects of the individual are taken into account: mind, body, emotions, soul and spirit. The depth and breadth of this perspective can help us to connect to our innate wholeness and can unlock potential we are not yet aware of.
I am able to call on a variety of therapeutic models and this enables me to meet each individual in a unique and flexible manner. These methods include looking at your early life; becoming aware of patterns that have been established and are impacting on your current life and relationships; revealing what you would like to see emerging in the future.
We will work together by talking and we will explore the concerns and issues you wish to look at, the current events in your life and the influences that have led to the problems that may be troubling you now.
I also work with dreams, story, myth, imagination and visualization when this feels appropriate for you. These symbolic ways of seeing can help gain access to our deeper unconscious self and enrich our experience in the everyday world.
What Happens?
When you decide you would like to take the step of contacting me we will arrange to speak on the phone, discuss briefly what you are looking for, and then make an initial appointment to meet.
This first meeting is an assessment where you can get an impression of me and tell me more about what it is you are seeking or the concerns that are troubling you. This will give me an idea of what I think will be involved. If you decide to go ahead we will then find a mutual time to meet weekly which will be regular and dependable. Sometimes meeting twice a week can be more helpful.
Short term counselling can sometimes take only 6 to 12 sessions. If longer term therapy is indicated, and you decide to continue, we can review the work at intervals suited to you. If you decide you want to end the therapy at any point we will review and discuss where we have got to and then plan an ending.
My fee is £43 for a 50 minute weekly session. Fees are reviewed annually in April.
My practice is in Chesham, Bucks and there is free parking available.
